WEEK 05

WEEK 05

Lumion Rendering

This Hero Shot truly captures the building and its integration into the land surrounding it. That not only does the building adapt to the terrain yet the terrain is also forming to the building, alongside the contrast between the rectilinear building and natural landscape is highlighted in this shot. The render depicts most of the building and its relative size whilst the lower angle looking upward at the top building emphasises the grand stance it has overlooking the cliff. Within the shot, the underground levels can be seen emerging from the cliff with its glass front to capture the sunlight whilst the retreated upper building floats up on the wall slices and support beams.

This Detail Shot captures the stair case leading upward to the buildings above. The shot highlights the simplistic staircase which has been cantilevered off the cement wall. This was chosen to emphasise the relationship with this wall, stair case and the building. Within the Hero Shot the cement slices are seen holding up the upper building and connecting it to the ground, this detail shows the important connecting piece which not only connects the buildings but provides the connecting staircase. The detail also incorporates the custom material of 'crystalline' which almost resembles marble stone.

 Model

The model was uploaded to GOOGLE WAREHOUSE and is named 'ARCH1101 EXPERIMENT 1 2019 MODEL ZEEL MISTRY Z5209039'

The following images depict the process of creating this model, through the different changes and alterations that were made;

WEEK 04

WEEK 04

Model

The sketchup model was further refined through creating a more realistic landscape/ground that the building sits on. The ground previously was far too geometric and rectilinear, the newer form is much more natural and harbours different contours. The model has also altered the bottom levels with having a varying width in the hubs. With that change, the middle level also sports slices of walls instead of the glass box earlier. Furthermore, the model was furnished with appropriate furniture and elements such as registers, cubicles, tables and show cases.

Stairs

The stairs were already completed to a high level of detail taking into consideration both the connection to the building and also balustrades and hand rails. However, the following is the set of sections for the connection to the building for both stairs.

 The following images depict the details of the stair cases;

WEEK 03

WEEK 03

Materials

The super materials article was read and from that a range of words were selected to represent the aesthetics, functions, capabilities, textures and so on of those materials. The following 36 words were selected.

After selecting these words, they were appropriately grouped into 3 sections for the upper, middle and lower buildings. The following depicts these groups.
From the 36 words, the general sketches were created in a 6x6 grid. These materials were drawn to be placed into the sketchup model as materials. As they were supposed to be in the model the textures were muted and not too expressive as it may look unaesthetic in the model.

The following images are the rendered and edited versions of the final selected materials from the 36 drawn.
INSULATE - Bottom Level

CRYSTALLINE - Middle Level
DISTORT - Top Level
The insulate texture depicts a dark border that is protecting its contents which is a gradient. This highlights how real life insulation works, this was chosen for the lower levels as the ground acts like an insulator around the building. This image also turned out to resemble cement plates.

The crystalline texture is a range of non-uniform lines that join together giving a crystal like image. This material was used in the middle level as a feature wall. The transparency worked well to create a glazed glass finish.

The distort texture resembles straight lines that have been distorted in the centre, these lines have broken and moved out of line. This texture however doubly depicted wood hence the brown background was added. This was incorporated onto the upper levels which include the modern cement white and brown interior design.

The following images show the textures in place;

Items

The following images depict the items of each respective client (Bernebei Freeman and Off-White) in the sketchup model. These have been placed in the workshop and the gallery spaces.

  VIDEO ABOUT GLASS PANEL PLACEMENT ON STAIR CASE

This short video highlights how a glass panel can be attached and placed next to a stair case for both protection and aesthetic value.

WEEK 02

Stair Sections

The following images are of sections in both directions of the stair. These are two pairs of upper and lower staircases that join the two buildings to the middle gallery room.

Stair Models

The following stair cases have been designed to reflect the general concept of the two clients. The first stair case upward is for Off-white, using cement cantilever treads they reflect the noun ‘cement’ and the idea of the wall carrying the treads. The glass provides a modern touch to the stair case. Meanwhile, the second stair case leading downward is for Bernebei Freeman which utilizes perforated metal treads that reflect the lamp chosen. The lights on the ground resemble the lamp and the noun ‘lightsource’. The slow widening of the stairs emphasises how going underground is not making the space smaller however larger.

WEEK 01

WEEK 01

Sketches

Using the words from the previous exercise, eighteen hand drawn sections were made. These sections represented an upper level of a building and an underground level of a building, using the words in a fashion where they could all be incorporated in a different permutations. The following images are the sketches.

The following sketch is the final decided one, using words CEMENT and LIGHT SOURCE.

Sketchup Model

By creating the section in the previous sketch, this was translated into Sketchup were a model could be built. The following images are the sections of the model reflecting the drawing.

With these sections extended, the following images show the 3 dimensional model created.

Confirmed material selection has been cement for most exteriors for off-white noun of 'cement' alongside glass for the windows for bernebei freeman noun of 'light-source' as it allows light to pour through. Furthermore, usage of metal and wood have been chosen for the modern and industrial theme.
